The civil service hearing for Frank Bigowsky began last Wednesday and was to resume this afternoon but got continued while the two sides attempt to work out a settlement.

Mayor James Melfi says he cannot discuss the issue at this time. A joint statement is expected to be released soon.

Bigowsky was demoted from chief to patrolman in June after city officials found he violated several city regulations.

The chief, however, has maintained he did nothing wrong and appealed the decision.

If a settlement is not reached by next Wednesday the hearing will resume.
