Warren Officer on Leave Faces Charge by Peggy Sinkovich

Blaine Cox says he went to a Warren bar August eighth to watch one of his buddies play in a band.  But as started as an enjoyable night out ended with a huge gash on his forehead he claims came from the hands of Paul White, a Warren City police officer, who is on a personal leave.

"Just out of nowhere, he came across with what I assumed was a beer bottle even though I never did see what it was and he hit me in the head.  He grabbed me by the shirt on my way down and hit me in the back of the head," Cox said.

Cox says he had never met White before and has not idea why he was attacked.

White could not be reached. He was hired as a police officer in May of 2007. He went on leave in April for a year so he could work security with an independent contractor overseas.

According to police reports, before the alleged incident took place White was here at the Horse Shoe Bar and reportedly he was hit on the head, but instead of going to a hospital he went to another bar, Blue Magoo's and that is where the alleged incident took place a few hours later.

City prosecutors filed a felonious assault charges against White. The say he should be arraigned on the charges sometime soon.

Prosecutor Traic Timko Rose says as a condition of bond she will ask the judge that White not be allowed to possess any weapons.

Police officials also tell us that they are conducting an internal investigation on the matter.
