Youngstown 2010 plan to educate and engage the community on their vision for the city. A neighborhood planning meeting was held concerning Boulevard Park which is part of the 2010 Initiative.
Boulevard Park lies at the southern border of Euclid Ave. and Rush Blvd, South of Midlothian Blvd. Area residents came together at the meeting to express their concerns, create a plan, and a vision for the neighborhood.
Youngstown Chief Planner, Anthony Kobak stated that part of the 2010 Initiative role is to listen to the concerns of the citizens and engage them in a thought and decision making process that will benefit the well-being of all residents in the neighborhood.
At the top of the list are houses that have been abandon causing depreciation eye sores to homeowners and landscaping eyes sores issues. Also there are trees that are decayed because of age and disease that need to be cut down. "These are the trees that fall on residents houses and break power lines when a storm comes," said Tom Strauss, a Rush Blvd. resident.
Turning Technologies provided a hand held device to the residents so they could vote on the issues silently and anonymously. The device will tally the votes and the results will be presented to the city officials.
7th Ward Councilman, John Swierz anticipates the results so he can help the planning committee formulate a plan for the Boulevard Park neighborhood. A plan that will represent the progess of the Youngstown 2010 Initiative. The finalize plan of ideas will be present to Mayor Jay Williams.
