Austintown School Levy

Austintown School District will look to the voters for the first time this upcoming election as it tries to get out of a $3 million deficit.

School board members approved a 4.9 mill levy to put on the November ballot.

The board hoped to approve open enrollment for funding but had to back off the idea with so much disapproval from the community.

Now it's going to try a levy to provide money for current operating expenses and general improvements.

"Not to make us rich or anything, but it will enable us to provide the quality education for the students in Austintown," School Board President Dr. David Ritchie said.

If approved, the levy would raise more than $2.9 million dollars. But if voters don't approve it, the board may look at open enrollment again.
