Benefit Garage Sale by Dan Martin

Summer garage sale season is in full swing. But for one Hubbard family the sale means so much more than some extra spending money.

"GARAGE SALE! GARAGE SALE!"

From the street it sounds like your average summer garage sale.

"WE'RE LIKE WAL-MART, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE BAKED GOODS OUT HERE, THERE'S BASKETS AND PURSES, LOTS OF CLOTHES, KIDS TOYS, TONS OF CHRISTMAS STUFF."--Katie Costello Anastiya's Mother

The difference is every cent collected right here, will go to help children on the other side of the world.

"WE ACTUALLY ARE RAISING MONEY FOR BABY HOSPITAL NUMBER THREE IN VLADIVOSTOK, RUSSIA. EARLIER THIS YEAR, IN MARCH WE WENT AND ADOPTED A LITTLE GIRL FROM RUSSIA, HER NAME IS ANASTIYA."--Katie Costello Anastiya's Mother

Katie and her husband Sam saw the conditions in the Russian baby hospital first hand...So when they got home with their daughter, they wanted to give something back.

"ONCE WE WERE OVER THERE, WE SAW HOW BLESSED WE ARE, I MEAN PEOPLE OVER HERE IN THE UNITED STATES DON'T REALIZE AS FAR AS HOW GOOD WE GOT IT."--Sam Costello Anastiya's Father

It's also a friendly competition. The Costello's and the couple who went with them to Russia from Oklahoma to adopt their son Wyatt, are having garage sales at the same time with the same goal.

"I THOUGHT IF WE COULD TOGETHER COLLECT A THOUSAND DOLLARS AND SEND THAT OVER, THAT WAS PRETTY GOOD, AND WE ARE CLOSE TO THREE-THOUSAND DOLLARS BETWEEN THE TWO OF US AT THIS POINT."--Katie Costello Anastiya's Mother

And every bit of it helps, because there are lots of other boys and girls who aren't as lucky as little Anastiya.

"THERE'S ALL THESE FACES AND IMAGES THAT ARE GOING TO LIVE WITH YOU FOREVER OF ALL THESE KIDS THAT ARE LEFT BEHIND, SO IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN GIVE BACK, SOMETHING THAT WE CAN DO, SO SINCE WE CAN DO IT, LET'S DO IT."--Katie Costello Anastiya's Mother

The sale runs until five o'clock Sunday on East Liberty Street in Hubbard.
