A press conference was held at the district's headquarters to kick off the name change. Officials with Meander Water say they decided to change the name now since it is the district's seventy-fifth anniversary.
District officials say they have kicked off a sixty thousand dollar media campaign letting people know about the name change and what they have to offer. They are also hoping the media campaign will help them expand.
Meander Water services Youngstown and Niles and several other townships and cities.
"Various areas that are adjacent to the city of Niles and Youngstown that do not have our water, we also look to expand in Niles and Youngstown if a manufacturer would come in.", states Tom Holloway, chief engineer.
Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams says he is hoping areas that do not have Meander Water decide to switch. He says he believes Meander Water offers the best product at the best price.
