The Trumbull County Fair

One of the valley's favorite mid-summer celebrations is back as the 162ND annual Trumbull County Fair makes its return tomorrow. Dennis Biviano was in Cortland for last minute preparations and he previews the week ahead.

Trumbull County are you ready?? A week of fun, excitement and off the wall entertainment.. awaits.

All your favorite games, foods, rides and events are back...including two nights of tractor pulls and of course a crowd favorite...the demolition derby. And if you're into head to head racing.... you can't miss the school bus races on Tuesday.

"IN THE PAST THEY'VE HAD 10 BUSES AND THEY JUST TURN THEM ALL LOOSE."--Jamie Wrightsman Cortland

How about music....well Country star Tracy Lawrence will perform this year...he made an appearance at Eastwood Field last summer. The fair board decided to use funds set aside by the Trumbull County visitors Bureau to land a big performer.

"THAT WAS EARMARKED FOR BIG NAME ENTERTAINMENT AND TOOK A COUPLE OF YEARS TO GET WHAT WE WANTED IN OUR PRICE RANGE."--Richard Roscoe Board President

Ever been in close range of a real canon...we'll you'll get the chance in the civil war area to the left of the grandstands...but sorry they're not firing them off.

And of course everyone's favorite, the barnyard animals. Now owners say there's months of preparation involved in getting the animals ready for the fair. 14 year old Megan Jackson of Southington says preparations start in late May for her 30 dairy goats.

"THEY ALL HAVE TO HAVE BATHS..UPDATES ON ALL OF THEIR VACATIONS AND SHOTS. AND THEY SHOULD BE PROPERLY CLIPPED FOR SHOW."--Megan Jackson Southington

Now all types of animals are on display...several are up for auction Saturday afternoon. In the meantime, several auctions, rodeos and local bands are scheduled to perform. The event concludes next Sunday with the Tracy Lawrence Concert....followed by a fireworks show. As always...lets hope the rain holds off.. this year.

The fair opens at 10 am tomorrow...admission starts at 7 dollars.
