Niles Jobs by Peggy Sinkovich

The J.A. McMahon company has been in Niles for decades, and now thanks to help from county and city officials, they will remain in the area for many more years.

On Thursday the Trumbull County Commissioners approved a 75 percent, 10-year- tax abatement for Niles based J. A. McMahon corporation. The abatement will allow the company to expand its Grant Street facility.

"It's incentives like this that help companies grow and make investments needed, they are going to add eight thousand square feet to the facility," said Walt Good, of the Regional Chamber.

The $1.8 million addition will help the company maintain 23 jobs, plus allow the creation of six new full-time positions over the next three years.

The company specializes in fabricating structural and miscellaneous steel for commercial structures, industrial facilities and bridges.

"It's a company that is homegrown that's staying here not moving or going somewhere there are lower wages, and they are investing in their community. They live here, that's the best kind of development we can have," said Paul Heltzel, Trumbull County Commissioner.

And John McMahon says leaving the area was not an option.

The company plans to begin working on the expansion in the next few weeks.
