Shenango Valley residents from all walks of life gathered together Monday morning in the Wheatland Tube parking lot with one thing in common, saving the industrial jobs that employ most of this valley.
"We are just going to show our presence, there will be other congressman testifying on our behalf to the trade commission. We are just there to show our support.", explains Mike Munger, president of Local 1660.
Three years ago, the International Trade Commission ruled that Chinese pipe imports were hurting American Companies like Wheatland tube. Tuesday will be the final day for the International Trade Commission and Congress to hear findings from United States steel companies on why a temporary trade tariff needs to be renewed this summer.
"I have nothing against trading with other companies, but just make it fair. They have no laws over there.", states Munger.
Shenango Valley officials say what Congress needs to keep in mind is that it's not just about the workers of steel and tube companies but the towns they reside. The entire community risks extinction if plants continue to shut their doors.
Mercer county commissioner, Brian Beader says, "It's having serious effects on our economy over here and we are hoping for a favorable ruling to help out and support the local tube mills."
