Liberty Death Update by Peggy Sinkovich

It been eleven days, since the death of an eighty-seven year old Liberty township woman.  And there hasn't been a day that, Liberty Police Chief Tony Slifka hasn't replayed the events of April 28th in his mind.  He has been struggling to figure out what his officers could have done, to find Mary Rush.

One of Rush's neighbor's on Mansell Drive had called police twice, around three in the morning on the 28th, saying she heard screaming.  Officers went to the area and couldn't find her.  Finally, at seven a.m. Rush was found unresponsive on her porch and died a short time later.  Cause of death was hypothermia.

Residents have been up in arms, upset, that officers never got out of their cruisers to look for Rush, who many say suffered from some form of dementia.

Slifka says two officers were dispatched to the area after the first call was received.  They drove up and down the street at least four times never hearing anything.

Forty minutes later, the second call came in and officers went back.

Trustees and the township administrator say they are hoping an independent investigation done by Kent State University's Trumbull Campus Public Safety Training and Research Center will give help them needed answers.
