Bikers & Gas by Dennis Biviano

If you're looking to save on gas... And you feel safer on four wheels--- check out the hybrid models. But-- if you don't mind ditching four wheels for two-- get a motorcycle. Tonight-- was the start--- of bike night at Quaker Steak and Lube in Austintown. and with gas prices inching toward 4-- dollars a gallon-- some bikers say it's the best way to ride.

Some riders are just sick of the burden that nearly four dollars a gallon is putting on their wallets. Most say they are going to take full advantage of their bikes during the warmer months.

"MY TRUCK GETS 18 MILES PER GALLON. MY BIKE GETS 50. I GOTTA RIDE THE BIKE IN ORDER TO SURVIVE. I MEAN I DON'T MAKE A WHOLE LOT OF MONEY. I CAN'T TAKE HALF OF MY PAYCHECK AND PUT IT INTO A GAS TANK JUST TO GET TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK"--BOB SEABROOK

While the average car gets about 20 miles per gallon....the average bike gets 50 to 60 miles per gallon. So with a three to five gallon tank, that averages to about 1-hundred fifty to 300 miles per fill--up.Some are going to use the bike more back and forth to work, and others just flat out prefer their bike on road trips.

"I GET TERRIFIC MILES ON MY BIKE. I GO UP TO MICHIGAN EVERY OTHER WEEKEND. AND I WOULD PICK THAT OVER MY CAR ANY DAY."---Patricia Rickard

Some motorcyclists say the resurgence has just begun.

"FIVE DOLLARS A GALLON BY MEMORIAL DAY. SO THIS THING GETS PROBABLY ABOUT 65 MILES A GALLON, SO that's WHAT I'M GONNA DRIVE."--SCOTT RYMER

The Lube already gets about 2000 bikes per Thursday night and is looking to surpass that number this summer...weather and gas permitting....Some riders are just sick of the burden that nearly four dollars a gallon is putting on their wallets. Most say they are going to take full advantage of their bikes during the warmer months.
