Women looking to have an abortion in the Mahoning Valley will now have to travel to Akron, Cleveland or Pittsburgh.

The Mahoning Women's Center in Youngstown closed its doors Tuesday. The clinic opened in 1976. Owner Maryann Baker decided to retire after 34 years and the building will be sold.

Baker's son, Tim, said his mother worked hard over the years to promote women's rights.

"Making the National Organization for Women prominent in the city of Youngstown," he said. "She made her passion into a career, and because of what she did, she was able to advance a lot of the rights that women now enjoy today."

Members of the Mahoning County Right to Life said it is positive and good for the community.
