An early morning fire in Trumbull County has claimed the life of a Farmington woman.

Officials said Katherine Lee was killed in the blaze, but her husband was able to make it out safely. The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. Thursday at a home on Ensign Road.

It's believed the fire originated in the kitchen. There were smoke detectors in the home, but they were not working at the time.

This is the township's first fire-related fatality in nearly 15 years. Farmington Fire Chief Rodney Clisby said the State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.

"The State Fire Marshall will return here," Clisby said. "We will leave a crew on a fire watch scenario until the State Fire Marshal can continue their investigation during daylight hours."
