U.S. District Judge John R. Adams denied without comment a request by John "J.J." Cafaro to move his detention hearing from Monday, March 22, to Friday, March 19.

The denial means that Cafaro will remain in the Corrections Corporation of America jail in Youngstown over the weekend until his hearing on Monday at 11:30 a.m.

Earlier this week, Adams ordered the retired mall developer into custody after he pleaded guilty to violating federal campaign financing laws. During that hearing, federal pretrial services officials complained Cafaro had not provided them with information on his various assets and liabilities.

Cafaro is scheduled for sentencing on June 8.

The charge against Cafaro stems from U.S. Attorney's Office's claims he broke federal election law in 2004. Investigators said he caused an official within his daughter's campaign committee to file with the Federal Election Commission a quarterly report that falsely stated he contributed only $2,000 to her general election campaign when he actually gave $10,000.

The maximum individual contribution allowed by law to federal candidates is $2,000. His daughter, Capri Cafaro, has said she did not have knowledge that the action occurred and is not being charged in the case.

Jumbo is not the only Cafaro needing to spend a little time in the slam; Flora paid the bribe to Judge Cronin and Capri accepted the illegal campaign contribution. They can have a regular Cafaro family picnic right there in the cell! Hey, do you think JJ hogs the covers when he's bunking with Bubba?

Makes you want to drive by and honk. Imagine what the attorney feels like, seeing a big account possibly go up in smoke when he couldn't get the boss man sprung for the weekend. Lesson: don't play games with a Federal Judge.
