A pit bull mix was reportedly found shot to death on Youngstown's East Side Tuesday morning.

Humane agents with Animal Charity found the dog with a gunshot wound to its chest and covered in plastic near ESA Apartments on Kendis Circle.

Agents believe the dog was shot somewhere else and dumped outside of the apartment complex. They can't say at this point if the case is related to the recent rash of animal abuse in the city.

"Not this type of cruelty," said Animal Charity Humane Agent Kyle Ziegler. "It doesn't really fit with anything else we've been getting, just because its a gunshot wound. And everything else has been malicious and thought out. We'll know more how the dog died when we get it back to Animal Charity to examine it.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Animal Charity at 330-788-7430.

"It gets pretty frustrating because there are other ways to get rid of an animal," said Ziegler. "There's the pound. You can contact Angels for Animals. There are other organizations that may be able to take the dog, but to do this to a dog, it gets pretty frustrating to see this happen to them."

This is unfortunate. However, is it more humane to drop a dog off at the pound, where if not fit for adoption, is put down anyways. Also Angel for Animals is a joke. A kitten showed up on my porch before winter so we took it in from the cold. I called Angel for Animals to see if they can take him, and they said not for 9 months. They told me that if I dropped the kitten off, they would have to put it down because they do not have the means to care for it. Theres something really "Angelic" about that "charity."

I hope they catch these soulless piece of crap before they hurt anymore animals......hopefully Nitro's HB108 will pass the senate so we can achieve a stepping stone in the right direction to help fight animal cruelty and these people will receive the punishment they reserve!!!

@ahhand..I don't care if someone has gone thru proper agents...to kill a dog like this is just plain ignorant. If people can't handle the animal then DON'T GET ONE! Plain and simple. To dump it like this....means this person has no care...if this was someone's pet then usually people bury it...not throw it on the street like trash!

Sometimes when all the proper agents do nothing you are left with little choices. I don't agree on the disposal but maybe the gunshot was last resort. You never know and we should reserve judgement until all the facts can be gathered. Being from the Eastside, I will be awaiting the outcome.
