POLAND TWP., Ohio (WKBN) - The Poland Township Police Department is asking the community for information on who may be stealing from vehicles and homes in the area.
Surveillance video captured a photo of the person police believe is responsible for multiple home invasions and thefts from vehicles in the township.
A total of six different housing complexes have fallen victim to these burglaries and overnight vehicle break-ins, and each are only within seven to ten minutes of each other.
At the most, they're 15 minutes away from the Poland Township Police Department.
The break-ins happened on Brookstone Place, Clingan Road, Park Place Drive, Walnut Grove Circle, Timberbrooke Trail and Cobblers Run.
Residents of the affected neighborhoods share similar feelings about the situation - fear and extreme caution.
Officers say this isn't the first time a string of break-ins like this has happened, but now it's even more alarming because the burglars are making their way into homes in the middle of the night.
According to recent statistics from the FBI, burglaries are more likely to happen at night or on weekends. Sometimes burglars target residents, as well as the home and valuables inside.
One neighbor said, "It's very scary since we see our homes as our safe havens from the outside world."
There are precautions you can take to protect yourself and your family:
- Always lock doors, windows and garages
- Make sure home entrances are well-lit
- Install heavy-duty locks and window security systems throughout your home
- Have a family meeting to work out home security plans in case an emergency should happen while someone is at home
Those with information on the person's identity are asked to contact Sgt. Dan Aracich or Detective Greg Wilson at 330-757-8033 (ext. 122 or 123).
Callers may remain anonymous, and police say a cash reward is available for information leading to the identity of the person.
