If you choose to pack your belongings yourself, there are several helpful hints to remember. Buy boxes and begin packing cartons at least two weeks before your moving day. Be sure, however, that the items you pack early are items that you will not need before your move. By spreading out the packing time, the job itself will not seem as overwhelming. Organize the boxes on a room by room basis. In order to make packing as easy as possible, it is probably best not to mix items from different rooms in one box. Keep an inventory of what is in each box, and take this with you during the move. Also, on the top and front of each box, write a general description of the contents and indicate the room from which it came. Pack each box snugly, stuffing crumpled paper into any empty spaces. Newspaper can smear, so use clean, white wrapping paper to wrap items. When packing, place heavy items in small boxes and light items in large boxes. Plates and record albums should be packed on-end vertically, rather than placed flat and stacked. Remember to remove light bulbs from lamps and secure caps on all toiletries and medicine. Do not pack aerosol cans. For more tips on packing and crating, contact a local professional moving company.
