YSU's Beeghly Center was the location for the school's 3rd Annual Freshman Convocation on Sunday. The ceremony is the school's official welcome to the incoming class of 2014.

"We have about 1300 people coming for the celebration," said Jackie Leviseur, Interim Director of Alumni and Events. "We're very excited."

School officials said the convocation is a very important ceremony for incoming freshmen and gives the students the opportunity to get familiar with the campus atmosphere and meet different people.

"To let them know they made the right decision, to be excited about being a Penguin, about being here at YSU, to introduce them to other students," said Leviseur. "They'll get to put names to faces of the campus leaders, they'll meet their deans, fellow students."

And some students didn't waste any time meeting new friends and getting familiar with the campus. Like freshmen physical therapy students, Meta Hord and Bianca Evans.

"It's exciting. Me and Bianca over here have been going around trying to find where our buildings are so tomorrow I'll be ready," said Hord.

And all around YSU's campus on Sunday, you could find students moving in and trying to get more familiar with the campus.

"A lot of walking around trying to meet some people, trying to get a feel, buying stuff I forgot to get," said Freshmen Justin Bliss.

"I like the campus and the environment as well, so it's a very wide variety of campus and buildings around here," said student Brandon Moore.

School officials said more than 2,000 freshmen will be attending YSU this upcoming school year.
