The Youngstown Police Department has parted ways with the city's Police Athletic League.

Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley said he and Mayor Sammarone wanted to restructure some of the youth mentoring program, but couldn't get around some of the issues. So, he decided it was best to part ways until the city parks department hires a new director.

Once that happens, Foley said he's open to linking up again.

"The door is always open. At this time we're just going to go a different direction. Certainly everyone is welcome to the table at the city of Youngstown and we'll see where it goes," Foley said.

The Youngstown Police Athletic League was established in 2006 as a way for officers to use athletics to get closer to kids in the community.

Foley said the police department continues to support the community's youth, and under the new administration, it will be reorganizing the Crime Prevention Program to better serve the citizens of Youngstown.

So because adults can't "get around issues" the kids suffer. That seems about par for the course. I have to say I'm disappointed in Chief Foley over this.
