Warren city officials said they hope the potential reopening of two local steel plants will help the local economy rebound.

In 2009, both Arcelormittal and Severstal went idle, laying off all of the employees indefinitely.

The city of Warren not only lost the income tax from those workers, but other departments, like the city's Water Department, also took a big hit.

City Councilman Bob Dean said, "You figure, this is one of our largest revenue sources in terms of water revenues. I don't know if they're the largest, but they are in the top three and that's a big hit when they're done. So if they come back online, there's going to be a lot of people in the city of Warren happy when that revenue starts coming in to our water revenue fund."

Neither company has confirmed a restart date, but Arcelormittal says company officials are in negotiations with the union and other stakeholders to determine the feasibility to bring the old Warren Coke Plant back online.
