A group is standing up and speaking out for abused animals.

Demonstrators gathered in downtown Youngstown and lit candles in hopes of putting an end to animal abuse.  The animal advocates support Nitro's Law, or House Bill 108, which would make animal abuse a felony in Ohio.

The vigil comes one day after several German Shepherd puppies were found dead on Federal Street near the WRTA bus terminal.

"It almost brought me to tears, and sick to my stomach.  And what makes us even more angry is if this person was caught, they wouldn't get the much of a penalty because Ohio has such lack of laws for animal abuse," said Youngstown resident, Jenna Cintavey.

Using social media, it only took the group about 24 hours to get word out about the vigil.  They want folks to contact their State Representative and encourage them to push House Bill 108 to the floor for a vote.
