It's not the Lions' or the Cowboys' annual Turkey Day Game, but it is a Thanksgiving tradition right here in the Valley.

Every year for the last seven, Grant Martin's family has hosted a backyard football game which has grown each year. It's grown each year and this Thanksgiving will benefit the hungry in Trumbull County.

"My grandson started out, around six or seven years old," said Charles Martin. "And he decided he wanted something to do on Thanksgiving, and so he started this little turkey bowl."

"We come out, and play football with my friends," said Grant Martin.

It all began in this Mckinley Heights neighborhood when most of the kids were in first or second grade. Many of them are now in high school. This year is the seventh annual backyard football game with kids from Niles and Howland taking part.

And while the focus for the kids is on football, they have taken on a much bigger cause. They are trying to help feed the needy here in the Valley. To participate, each player must bring a bag of non-perishable food items. The food will go to the Warren Family Mission, which will distribute it to people in need in Trumbull County.

On top of the donations and fun for the kids, parents and grandparents get to watch and enjoy the holiday tradition.
