Former State Rep. Michael Verich of Warren is one of four people who has been recommended for a seat on the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, which regulates utility companies.
PUCO's nominating council recommended three other people to Gov. John Kasich: Paul Centolella of Worthington, who currently holds the seat; Republican State Rep. Lynn Slaby of Copley and commission staff member Beth Trombold of Columbus.
The five-year appointment to the commission starts in April. Kasich has 30 days to make a selection or ask the council for alternate nominees. The appointment would face confirmation in the Senate.
Verich recently had his professional services contract extended for six months by Trumbull County Commissioners, who said Verich helps provide advice regarding potential impact from pending state and federal legislation and conducts outreach to local government agencies. He is paid $2,000 per month.
