The Trumbull Ashtabula Group, a drug task force made up of sheriff deputies from each county, normally conduct raids in the rural areas. This week that changed, with the group making two major busts in the city of Warren; one Tuesday on West Market Street and one Thursday on Mahoning Avenue.
Sheriff officials say they have started to notice an increase of drugs coming from the city of Warren to rural communities, such as Southington, and the main drug they are noticing is Heroin.
"Heroin is really strong again," said Major Tom Stewart, of the Trumbull County Sheriff's office. "I think since I have been in law enforcement, this is the third big cycle. The early-70s, mid-80s, and now again, Heroin is coming back." Undercover officers say they are also seeing an increase in people overdosing on Heroin.
Officers from TAG made close to 20 arrests. The officers say parents need to pay close attention to their teenagers. They say juveniles from the suburbs, including teenaged girls, are making their way to Heroin houses in Warren. "They are renting their vehicles, their parents vehicles, so they can get drugs and also their bodies," the undercover officer said.
TAG officers say they are planning to make more raids and additional arrests could be forthcoming.
