At five minutes past noon on Friday June 12, 2009, both WKBN-TV and WYTV-TV will turn off their analog transmitters. For almost all viewers, this will be invisible. If you receive your television by satellite or cable, you are already prepared for digital television (DTV). If you receive your television signal through an antenna, you are still ready to go if you have a digital television, or have installed a
digital converter box on your old analog television. Once the analog signal is turned off, those antenna viewers will lose the signal on channel 27 and 33. You can watch the digital signal on 27.1 and 33.1. Antenna viewers are encouraged to rescan their TV's after June 12th to get a new list of watchable stations since every full power station is terminating their analog signal at some point on the 12th. (Your owners manual for the TV or converter box will have instructions on how to rescan.)
FOR ANTENNA VIEWERS ONLY
Digital signals behave differently than analog. Our experience is showing us that the distance in which a perfect signal is receivable is greater for digital. However there will be no more marginal signals. Digital either gives you an ideal picture, or none at all. If you are not seeing our digital signal, try turning the antenna or moving it to a new location. You may have to install an outdoor antenna if you are using indoor rabbit ears. Every situation is unique, every location has its own peculiarities.
WYTV has a new transmitter installed which will dramatically increase its signal strength. As of now, we are awaiting government approval to finish the tower construction and turn it on to full power. If you are having difficulty receiving 33.1, 33.2 and 33.3 despite trying the tactics described above, the problem may be solved as soon as the new transmitter is finished.
