Boardman High School students learned the effects of distracted driving Thursday.
The Ohio Department of Transportation brought in a simulator to let the teens see the consequences of sending a text message or making a phone call while driving.
It showed them what could happen in the event of a crash such as a court appearance or a trip to the hospital, depending on the severity of the crash.
"A lot of the crashes that appear on our roadways are due to distracted or impaired driving, and a lot of serious injuries and even fatalities are a result of these types of incidents," said Justin Chesnic, spokesperson for ODOT District 4.
The simulator is an effort by ODOT to try to eliminate distracted driving among high school aged drivers.
