Even though Ohio lawmakers have now approved a second week of temporary spending, Governor Ted Strickland remains confident a new two-year budget will eventually be passed.
The Governor spoke with reporters Friday afternoon. He admits his proposed biennium budget will mean some painful cuts in many programs and departments around the state.
He also defended his suggestion for using Video Lottery Terminals as a way to increase revenues by almost a billion dollars. He says, "I believe the people have elected us to deal with this current economic crises and I believe that my proposal is the best way to do that."
The Governor has asked lawmakers to stay in session, even over the 4th of July holiday if necessary, to hammer out a budget plan for him to sign.
