A Youngstown man was taken to the hospital after being shot on his front porch.

Police said Dennis McRae, 52, of 47 Brooklyn Ave., was shot about 2 a.m. Friday after two men with masks approached him. Police reports state that the victim threw a chair at one of the suspects in self defense. That same suspect was the gunman, reports said.

The incident occurred after McRae assisted a female, who was having car trouble on Market Street. McRae told police he thinks that may have been staged to lure him from his home.

The bullet entered through the man's chest and appeared to exit through his right arm, police said. They described his injuries as "non life-threatening."

The police report stated that McRae weighs approximately 550 pounds. Crews at the scene said a special ambulance had to transport McRae to the hospital.

McRae was last listed in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police said they have no known suspects.
