Victims of domestic violence may feel like they have nowhere to turn. But they do: the Sojourner House in Youngstown.
When women and children go to the shelter, they go with just the clothes off their backs. So they need all the daily living items anyone would need in their own homes.
Sojourner House is run by the Burdman Group. And Tuesday, they received a $5,000 check from Trustmark. Every year, employees at the insurance claims company vote on several organizations to support.
The funds will pay for supplies and help make over a room at Sojourner House. It will get new bedding, mattresses, headboards, towels and washcloths.
It was a similar scene Tuesday in Coitsville, where the Golden String also received $5,000 to keep helping people with mental disabilities. Most of the money will go toward transporting people to medical appointments and to provide staff.
Both the Golden String and the Burdman Group agreed that without donations, they wouldn't be able to keep their doors open.
Trustmark is also donating $5,000 to the Rich Center for Autism at Youngstown State University.
