If you were out near Lake Milton this Labor Day, you might have seen this sight going by, several boats flying "Old Glory," and even some water skiers sporting the flag. It was the way several members of the Lake Milton Ski Club celebrated the holiday.
"We decided, because we were a patriotic group, and we live in America," said Beth Pesek with the club. "We live on Lake Milton; beautiful Lake Milton State Park. We wanted to do something patriotic that we all could enjoy, and talk about how much we all love living out here."
Water skiing is a hobby that these folks really love. Sisters, Natalie and Nicole Fleming, have been skiing since age two.
"I don't know, it's really fun," said Natalie. "It's freezing today."
On top of chilly water temperatures and a relatively cool day, they all braved the choppy waters to fly the flag, as well.
"The water was rough, said Pesek. "No doubt about it. We had some swells about three and a half foot high, and the girls did good."
The Lake Milton Ski Club has about 15 families that are members.
"We like to ski recreationally now," added Pesek, "and teach little kids how to ski; just be part of a group of skiers."
Weather cooperating, they say they spend most every day in the water throughout the summer.
