His opponent toured a local company Friday. On Saturday, Lieutenant Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Lee Fisher visited the valley to talk with supporters and campaign door-to-door.
Fisher met with a group of volunteers at Mahoning County Democratic Party Headquarters.
He spoke to the crowd about his Senate race against Republican Rob Portman, thanking volunteers for working on his campaign and telling them how important the work they're doing is.
Then, Fisher joined volunteers going door-to-door to canvass a few of the neighborhoods on Youngstown's west side.
"Much more important than the television commercials is going to somebody's house and saying, 'I'm Lee Fisher, I'm running for the Senate, I want to put American jobs first, Ohio jobs first, and I'm running against Congressman Portman, who was George Bush's trade advisor. He's the one who actually sucked the jobs out of the Valley, and sent them to China.'"
Fisher said it's critical that Ohio voters re-elect Governor Ted Strickland and elect Fisher to replace the retiring George Voinovich.
The two races were highlighted in a recent Time Magazine article, emphasizing the role Ohio plays in National Politics.
