Salem residents will get the final vote when they decide whether the city raises its income tax a half-percent.

City council voted four to three Wednesday night to put the measure on the November ballot.  If voters approve, the tax hike would start in January and raise nearly $2-million a year for four years.

The mayor tells us the money will only be used for capital improvements like taking care of flooding problems in the city.  Salem has seen heavy flooding three times in the last 6 years.

you are taxing people when the money is not there to do so if you want to fix a flooding problem apply for state and federal grants do not put this burden on the backs of the working people !
