With Ohio set to establish new rules for licensed gun owners, some lawmakers are thinking of expanding those rules even further.
Earlier this month, the Ohio General Assembly approved new legislation allowing owners with "Concealed Carry" permits to take their handguns into businesses that serve alcohol, even sports venues. But now, some lawmakers are reportedly thinking the new rules don't go far enough and are considering allowing owners to have their guns on college campuses, government buildings and other places including daycare centers.
Ohio State Representative Bob Hagan (D-60th Ohio House) claims those behind the idea also pushed the state toward a "three-strikes-and-you're-out" plan for prison inmates.
"They're the same people, and now they're so fearful. They want everyone to have guns. This is just the most dangerous, ridiculous thing I've ever heard and I am ashamed for the state of Ohio. More so about the Republicans who think everything is so unsafe that they want everyone to have a gun," Hagan said.
Hagan voted against the recent concealed-carry measure, arguing there are too many guns on the streets already in the United States. He said he worries the expanded regulations will eventually lead to innocent people being killed.
