It was a packed house Tuesday night in Poland over concerns that officials may allow drilling in Poland Woods.
Poland Village Council is looking into the possibility of leasing land for drilling rights. Residents are concerned that wells could go up in and around Poland Woods.
One village official reassured residents that cannot happen.
"That the woods can only be used for park purposes only. The second condition is that it be kept in its natural state. I suggest that the proposed leasing of the woods in this manner to anybody would be a violation of that lease," he said.
"I guess what this meeting was all about, is just to say, possibly the price of polluting this entire area and polluting our drinking water and ruining this land for future generations is too high a price to pay," said resident Martha Morgan.
Chesapeake Oil was supposed to meet with village officials to discuss oil and gas fracturing, but they did not show up.
No decision was made on signing any drilling leases.
