An Edinboro man faces several charges after leading Pennsylvania State Highway Patrol officials on a chase that resulted in one cruiser rolling several times on State Route 965.
Jonathan E. Ackerman, 24, of Edinboro, was arrested shortly after the accident that happened about 2:45pm.
According to reports, Trooper James Mason attempted to stop Ackerman on an active arrest warrant on State Route 79 in New Vernon. Ackerman fled at a high rate of speed, said reports, and when additional troopers attempted to stop him with a spike strip, he drove around them and continued onto State Route 62.
He then fled east on State Route 965. Mason was able to pass his car and slowed his cruiser in an attempt to stop Ackerman, who struck him from behind. The cruiser was forced off the road and rolled several times. Another trooper was able to force Ackerman off the road.
Mason was extracted from his car by officers and citizens at the scene and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was released several hours later.
Ackerman faces charges of aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest.
