Ahhh....the lazy days of summer seem to be here .... For many campers at the Mosquito Lake Park that use to mean peaceful, relaxing, afternoons spent on the swing or near a campfire.
But the noise at a sanitary sewer facility off of Sterling Drive in Bazetta is disturbing campers and those that live nearby.
The electric blowers at the facility are kept outside of the control building, so the noise they generate can be heard in the campsite and on nearby Sterling Drive.
Those living nearby say it's constant, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which makes it difficult to sleep.
"You know, we don't sleep," said Rosalee Walters, who is staying at the campsite. "We have a bag of cotton and that is how we are putting up with the noise. We keep the windows on that side closed and run a fan to keep the noise down."
Ken Platt, who lives in Girard and has a campsite here in the summer, says the noise is not only irritating but is driving campers away. He says he started calling county and state officials in February to try and get the problem fixed.
"The main problem is you have a beautiful park here and can develop for tourism but you are chasing people away," Platt said.
Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer Rex Fee says he is aware of the problem and is meeting with other county officials to try and figure out a way to solve it. He hopes they can do something soon.
