GM Lordstown's new plant manager said he's impressed with the facility and excited about the launch of the Chevy Cruze.
Bob Parcell started his new job Aug. 1 and met with reporters for the first time Friday at the Lordstown facility.
"People are just outstanding," said Parcell. "Every person is very willing and offering help and assistance."
He said all three shifts are up and running, and he is thrilled to be part of the GM Lordstown team, which is the centerpiece of the company's reinvention strategy.
He said the Cruze is the first of a new family of compact products to deliver world class quality.
"We struggled as a company to do a small car right," said Parcell. "This has all the makings of being a home run. So the pressure now is we have to do our part, engineering. Engineers have done their job, designers did their job. Now it is in manufacturing. It is in our hands."
Parcell's most recent assignment was plant manager of GM's Bowling Green, Ky. plant, where the Corvette is manufactured. He was previously plant manager at the facility in Canada that in 2009 launched the successful Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain.
This is Parcell's ninth plant assignment since joining GM in 1979.
