The Ohio Sales Tax Reform Initiative is spreading the word for an Ohio sales tax holiday bill.
There was a rally Wednesday morning in Lowellville in support of the bill and State Representative Kevin Bacon, who introduced the bill to the State House today.
The tax holidays would occur during the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in August and December. On those days, taxes on clothing, school supplies, athletic equipment, and personal computers, will be suspended up to a certain dollar amount. "This benefits everybody in Ohio. Taxpayers win because they get to keep more of their hard earned money. When you incentivize (sic) taxpayers by letting them keep more of their hard earned money, they channel those savings into purchasing other things. It grows the economy," explained Bill Johnson with the Ohio Sales Tax Reform Incentive.
Similar programs are already in use by sixteen states, some of which report higher tax revenue from the holidays.
