Meridian Community Care broke ground Wednesday on a new 12,000-square-foot addition on North Meridian Road in Youngstown.

The $2 million project will allow Meridian to enhance the prevention, adolescent and outpatient services it provides. The organization specializes in treatment for drug addiction with a focus on improving quality of life for addicts and their families.

"What it allows us to do is to reach out to more people who are suffering with addictions every day," said Larry Moliterno, Meridian Care president. "That's why we wanted to do this a little bit low key, because while we need to celebrate this as an important milestone for our organization, we also have to recognize that it's pretty sobering the fact that this demand for addictions services continues to increase."

The project should be complete by the spring of next year.
