Man Arrested in Murder, Rape of Elderly Akron Woman

A Warren man has been arrested in the May 28 rape and murder of a 73-year-old woman in Akron.

Devon Daire Owens, 38, was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and rape in the death of Clara Virginia Wilfong, according to a release from the Ohio Attorney General's office.

According to the release, Wilfong was found brutally attacked and unresponsive in her apartment by her granddaughter after not responding to calls or knocks at the door. The granddaughter and other witnesses forced entry and found a partially-clothed male in the bedroom with her. He then fled out a window.

Quick forensic biology and DNA testing aided in the identification and arrest, said the release. After tips, detectives matched Owens' DNA profile to evidence earlier this week, said the release.

He was taken to Summit County Jail and will be arraigned 9 a.m. Wednesday in Akron Municipal Court.

DrBaccusMD, Take a look around, it usually is the very violent crimes committed by blacks that are in the news, not only on the Vindy.com site but on any decent sized cities media sites. We are not "slighting" them, a pun on words, but are really kind of fed up with reading and living them.

Well, the racist slights seem to be somewhat common here on forums in Mahoning Valley. We only need to do a quick curious review of postings involving stories that involve black crimes vs white crimes. Especially on the Vindy . com site!

Maybe he did it because the gene pool is shallow on his side of the street in Warren. Why don't you go look for racism where it really exists, in the black community.

These are racist hate crimes done against helpless old white people. And you are worried about the political correctness of someone's comments! These violent attacks on helpless older whites are going on daily in every major city in America, and it has to be stopped. Quit complaining because someone mentions the fact that 95% of these attacks are being done by young blacks. Whitewashing the facts does not get rid of the problem.On the t-v show Dragnet, the names were changed to protect the innocent; with political correctness, the facts are changed to protect the guilty!

If that animal does not get the death sentence, then something is seriously wrong! These thugs and punks move into a decent neighborhood and trash it overnight by turning it into a jungle of vulgarity and violence. They have no compassion on their helpless victims.When the victim does defend themselves,they often find themselves in trouble for not letting these savages kill them! I see a backlash coming from decent, law abiding people who are sick and tired of the reign of terror that these moronic heathen are bringing into our neighborhoods. Decent citizens need to buy guns to keep in their homes, and not be afraid to use them when these savages break in!

My comment isn't racist... sorry. It's about the Owens family in general. I think anyone who lives in the Ohio St. area off West Market would know without me saying a word about them really. This is not surprising to me whatsoever. Bless this woman and her family.
