Austintown residents will soon see a small decrease in their electric bill.

Trustees approved the township's participation in an electrical aggregate program. Through First Energy, the program will allow the township to provide a six-percent discount to residents.

Community members can opt out if they choose. But if they want to see some sort of discount, they won't have to do anything.

The average homeowner will save between $50 and $100 per year.

"But accumulatively, the number of residents that have that savings over the time period of the program equates to $5 million or $6 million that becomes disposable income that feeds back into the community," said Trustee David Ditzler.

The program is expected to start by the end of January and run through 2018.
