A local state representative is recovering after being attacked inside a Youngstown café Saturday night.

State Rep. Bob Hagan (D) said he had just entered the Lemon Grove café and Lounge with his family to see some entertainment there. That's when he said a man told him to get out of the way and punched him.

Hagan was knocked out and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He suffered a concussion and has 11 stitches in his chin.

Hagan spoke with us by phone about the harrowing ordeal.

"I was blind-sided by someone that came out of nowhere. I was in the restaurant less than two minutes and he hit me in the face and knocked me right out on the ground. An ambulance came and took me to the hospital."

Hagan said he will continue to enjoy the downtown area attractions and considers this just a random act of violence.

Police arrested 30-year-old Dorian Thomas at the scene.

VJohnson is absolutely right on target. This polition has already told his story three different ways. I know the person who hit the senator and he is not the type to attack without provocation. If the senator made that statement about the mother, I would be tempted to hit him myself. I really don't think Hagan even remembers what happened.

A restaurant that is that small and Hagan says the guy came out of nowhere. That doesn't make much sense. It is also convenient that he didn't want to appear on camera. Too bad there isn't any video surveillance of what actually happened.

Sen Hagen did not disclose all the facts, he was ask if he could move he was blocking the young man's mother veiw. He (Sen Hagen) said that is her bad luck then proceed to say **ck your mother, then rushed at the young man. The young man in question has never been in any trouble, is active with the community, and church. He attends YSU
