A local church says meat is out.

The Evergreen Seventh Day Adventist church in Boardman held a "Great American Meatout" event on Sunday.

The program offers people a chance to learn about the so-called dangers of a meat and dairy-based diet and instead encourages people to eat a vegetarian diet.

The "Great American Meatout" is a world wide effort that began in 1985.
