As Al Milano watched in court, prosecutors laid out a sampling of Jamar Houser's previous run-ins with the law even before the 18-year-old was accused of killing 80-year-old Angeline Fimognari last month.

Houser, who was arrested Friday, was arraigned Monday and issued $3 million bond in the Jan. 23 shooting death of Fimognari in the parking lot of St. Dominic's Church on the city's South Side.

Authorities said Houser's record dates back to when he was just 14 and convicted in juvenile court of receiving stolen property. Two years later, he was convicted on aggravated robbery. Then in September, he was accused of assaulting Jabone Kennedy, who claimed Houser thought he had said something about his father.

That same day Houser was arrested for reportedly firing a gun into the air outside his house on Volney Road. His bond for that was set at $500,000.

"If that bond were still in place, he likely would still be incarcerated pending trial," said city Prosecutor Jay Macejko.

Macejko said after being indicted, Houser's bond was cut to just $20,000, and he was released after posting just ten percent of that. Macejko said the Mahoning County prosecutor's staff should have been aware of Houser's record, and said "certainly they have full access to everything we have."

But the county prosecutor claimed city authorities should have done a better job alerting his office.

"If the city officials felt that strongly, they could have sent a note saying why we have the high bond, and the file just doesn't have that in it," said Mahoning County Prosecutor Paul Gains.

Macejko argued "when someone comes over with a half-million dollar bond, and they're relatively young, as Mr. Houser is, it should have been a 'red flag'."

Late Monday afternoon, we learned Gains' staff went back to Judge Lou D'Apolito, who will be hearing that firearms case, to request a higher bond.

The judge agreed and reset it at $200,000.

No trial coming up soon and a deal may be in the works . Jamar wont be put on death row and may not even do life in prison . If he goes to trial all bets are off . Right now Jamar is missing the street life and is eager to get out . A trial with the right jury would give him a chance to be free once again . The wrong jury would put him on death row .

I personally know jamar and he is a very sweet hearted man. Yes he had a few run ins with the law back then and recently but he was in the wrong crowds, young dumb and just was trying to fit in. One of the men jaabone kennedy has a horrible record and was arrested on assult many of times. He even assulted me and was arrested for it. I was accually there when he waved his penis at jamar and his family. The police scanned out his record trying to make him look bad. He could never kill anyone just to kill them. He wasnt like that and this is youngstown an there was a 10 thousand dollar reward out for the mystery killing. Of course someone wanted the money. Plus I there is another mook thats i know could of did it because thats how he is cocky, mean, a theif and of course always carry a gun. Names were mistaking and mixed up. I know the people who could of said he did it probably oking and found out he could get arrested for false witnessing and followed through with it. This MAN is being accused of a murder "PEOPLE!!!!" with no evidence. It was a unsolved murder for a week if they got videos like they say then why wasnt jamar arrested the day they watch the tapes.?? I heard that the man in the tape had a face full of hair jamar never had alot of hair on his face he could never grow that much. Then they made his mom and friend leave the court room. WHY?? because there was a court order between a female that was there, so they made them leave. A innocent man.. wow. I just watched this 16 year old blow his dad head off with a shotgun right nothing was wrong with him straight A student church man he was just mad and killed his father then called his girlfriend and told her then he called the police and he was sentenced 20 years. Im not saying its a race thing but its mighty funny jamars if found guilty he gets the death penality. He deserves a fair chance and hes so young he life is going to change for ever behind a sick joke. Whos ever behind this is going to hell.

This man gunned down a white woman in the parking lot of a Catholic church- why is this not charged as a hate crime? I am not a fan of the hate crime statute because murder is murder but if this had been done to any other race in their church of choice by someone of another race, it would have been a hate crime, carrying a stronger sentence guidline. If you are going to have it, use it everywhere it applies- not just when it is against certain races or religions. And don't tell me I'm making this about race- religion is at play, as well. I just want this trash off the streets for good if he is convicted, not paroled in 20 years for us to deal with later. If it takes the hate crime statute to do it, great.

I hate that this guy was even out on the street. He has a record, and was released without even paying his bail, and what happens?! He is accused of killing someone, caught on camera, and bragging about something a normal person could not live with. Apparently there is something wrong with his head and he is crazy! It seems like the justice system is getting soft. Every time I look they let a POS out of jail and they go right back where they left off and end up killing innocent people...

I will bet my LAST RED CENT that the last three commenters are a product of the Youngstown school system. Notice I didn't say "educated in" the system, they show no education. The misspelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, thought expression, etcetera, ad infinitum, prove it. And for someone to say this lowlife 'Mookie" is "going through an ordeal" is sheer stupidity....An ordeal for this dip s**t would be to have to get his lazy butt up and go to a job in the morning, every morning, instead of loafing in bed until noon and then getting up to go out and rob and kill and deal dope.I understand the proposed high speed rail system just whistled by here really fast, with no plan whatsoever to include the good old "Y-Town" in its plans, also the casinos don't come here, they won't touch "Y-Town" with a ten foot pole.Smart business men who run these large enterprises are not going to waste time and money on a loser of a town. They are too smart to try to operate in a town to which NO ONE WILL MOVE and where violent dope related crime is the norm.Supposedly the Mafia does not operate here any more.....are we better off now that they don't? It was a better town when THEY were here,I remember.I will venture to say that if they DID run it, the type of crime we have now and the people responsible, would go away in a hurry!Of course, the first businesses to flourish would be funeral homes, but that's not all bad. I feel sorry for Mayor Williams, he has a tough job to do, to clean up this "Y-Mess", and I know he is hanging on by his fingernails.I hope he is re-elected, because not only is he a true and wise and respectable gentleman,he may really be able to accomplish something positive in regards to cleaning up the criminals.I truly believe he wants to,and people of Youngstown should start putting honest judges in office. Cleveland is always criticized for being "The Mistake On The Lake"...What about here? Should we be called "The Mess on the Mahoning"?

blaze07 yes the record is true its public go read about it and yes he was out on bail.He has a court protection order against him too. From reading your comment I take it you know him. There were 23 cameras around the church and it was in the paper he gave YPD his location. And further more his people were in the courtroom but they left out so why didnt they return before court started. "Mook" has hurt a lot of people besides what they are stating now. If he didnt do it, he does NOT need to go through this but people he talked to reported him stating he was bragging about killing the woman. The streets talked before the lady was in the ground. No one should have to do time for a crime they did not commit but if he did do it he needs to man up. This information is public record as I stated before. rossp you are correct satan does not care about him at all and I believe this is part othe big problem....noone was there for them. I pray that while he is going through this ordeal that he turns to the one person that can guide him....GOD because he is almighty and the only one who knows the outcome of this situation. The devil will nevr when against the ALMIGHTY GOD...HE is AN AWESOME GOD!!!

so if the city of youngstown is makin fails accused ments on people that stay there/ where do the police stand them? wat evidence do the police got on the young man? is the record that they speak of is really true. why didnt they let the young man mother in the court to see his arrangement on video? but the city let everybody else in the court but his people. this city got some people mixed up just by the nicknames they know some people by. from wat i read at vindy.com bout the young man waz the police was goin by the nickname of "mook" but everybody know that there is always somebody else out there with the same nickname. but why didnt the young man run when he seen the cops? an inside source told me that the young man told the police to meet him somewhere so he can try to clear his name but the police didnt want to hear what the young man had to say just because of his nickname. but if the police check the juvenile data base and search the nickname of mook, they will come out with more then 1 hit jus by that nickname. so i want to see the police put an afford of tryin to get to the bottle before they mess up an young man's life and drag his name thru the mad like that. puttin his personal business out there like that cuz me personally i know bout 4 different mook's in the city of youngstown. i dont know that man but i know 2 females and 2 males. what happen to this lady sound like one of the mook s that i know will do something like this.
