Karen Adams went to Girard Municipal Court Thursday afternoon thinking she was going to have a preliminary hearing on a tampering with evidence charge. Instead she and her boyfriend, Paul Sundy were arrested.

Hubbard Township Detective Mike Begeot handcuffed the two and told them they had been secretly indicted by the grand jury. Adams is facing charges of murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. Sundy is facing a charge of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.

Police say Adams fired shots at four boys when they came to her Hubbard Township home around 2:30 in the morning August 10. One of the bullets struck and killed 15-year-old Robert Flynn of Brookfield.

"He was the most polite boy, very quiet, and loved to play basketball," said Krista Dorogy, a friend of the victim.

Adams had told police the boys had been harassing the family for hours. A friend of the couple says she is shocked by the charges. "They are good people," said Amy Hamlon.  "Great people. They wouldn't hurt people. Karen thought she was doing right."

The two are expected to be arraigned on the charges Friday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Police say no charges have been filed against the juveniles. Detective Begeot says he is continuing to investigate the case and will be meeting with prosecutors. He says additional charges could be filed sometime in the next few weeks.

I am completely ashamed about some of the comments I have read. Losing someone due to a tragedy leaves the family in such grief and with so many questions. I don't know many details from the shooting, but I do know what it's like to lose someone due to another persons irresponsible acts and I hope that the shooter pays for what she has caused not only Robert's family, but also the Brookfield Schools and the community. Some of you should be ashamed of youselves for the things that you are saying! Someone once told me that the good ones die young and it is so heartbreaking to know that this tragedy is the third tragedy Brookfield Schools is dealing with! RIP Robert, Maggie & Aleesa!

Come on people wake up on what these kids are doing today, they are running wild,if you punish them in any way ,it seems they call the law on you and you are in the wrong for trying to correct your kids , but by god if an adult calls the law on a teen ager ,it,s a different story .These kids have no dam respect today for their parents ,and can tell them to shut up or go and sneek around, i,ll bet roberts parents did not even know where he was going that night , so that tells me he was not suppose to be there. If he would have lived through this , he probably would have lied about going there when the story hit the news.trust me (I KNOW HOW THEY LIE.) I totaly agree with boss hawg ,you people make me sick,if you were in karin and pauls shoes ,,you don,t know what you would have done till the time came to act.It doesn,t look good for karin at all but i hope by the grace of god they both get off with probation. And for you people that think you know so much ,,,they did call the cops several times that day, when the cops came they ran , then went back again later,so quit believing what the lying kids are saying and get to the truth.

I have kept quite from day one, because I know both parties. I am deeply saddened by what happened to Robert. I know how it feels to lose a loved one, but when people are scared they do things that a normal thinking person wouldn't do.. I find it hard to believe that Kari would hurt anyone on purpose. Accidents do happen!! I know I have kids her childrens age and I would probably do everything and anything to protect them. The children were all there that night and you wouldn't exactly stop and ask for an ID at 2 in the morning. Kari and Paul both are caring people and they do well with their family. I know how it seems I am all for them, but it's not like that. I cried for Robert and his family. He was a good kid, and he may have been following peer pressure, but teenagers think they are invinsible these days. This is a lesson to be learned. I have raised teenagers and have two young ones of my own and kids get stuff by you. No one is perfect everyone has flaws, but you can't wish death upon anyone when everyone would do anything and everything to protect their children.

Quoting truelover09..."and honestly if you knew him you would know that he only went because his friends did and he did not go to cause trouble". But the truth of the matter is, he went with his friends knowing that there was going to be trouble - plain and simple - he shouldn't have been there! So yes, he was in the wrong, but it was of his own accord! None of those boys should have been there! Like I said in the beginning, they didn't go there to "kiss and make up" - they went with the intent of giving grief/causing trouble!

Amen truelover, he was an amazing kid. would have done anything for anyone. and he is definately missed by everyone that did know him! I am glad him and my daughter were great friends but not glad what happened to him because I have seen my daughter hurting like hell since that day because she lost her best friend! Someone who would talk to her for hours on end at times.... someone whom she had to go to seek for advice. He is definately missed!
