Karen Adams went to Girard Municipal Court Thursday afternoon thinking she was going to have a preliminary hearing on a tampering with evidence charge. Instead she and her boyfriend, Paul Sundy were arrested.

Hubbard Township Detective Mike Begeot handcuffed the two and told them they had been secretly indicted by the grand jury. Adams is facing charges of murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence. Sundy is facing a charge of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice.

Police say Adams fired shots at four boys when they came to her Hubbard Township home around 2:30 in the morning August 10. One of the bullets struck and killed 15-year-old Robert Flynn of Brookfield.

"He was the most polite boy, very quiet, and loved to play basketball," said Krista Dorogy, a friend of the victim.

Adams had told police the boys had been harassing the family for hours. A friend of the couple says she is shocked by the charges. "They are good people," said Amy Hamlon.  "Great people. They wouldn't hurt people. Karen thought she was doing right."

The two are expected to be arraigned on the charges Friday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Police say no charges have been filed against the juveniles. Detective Begeot says he is continuing to investigate the case and will be meeting with prosecutors. He says additional charges could be filed sometime in the next few weeks.
