A Lordstown dog boarding and daycare resort put together a fund raising event Saturday to benefit a local dog rescue group.

The Hike and Splash event took place at the Broadview Acres Country Canine Resort. The event included a mile-long group hike in the morning, and then the dogs could get baths from 11 am to 4 pm. The event also included vendors selling everything from dog clothing, dog treats and even dog jewelry. The money raised will benefit For the Dogs rescue group, an organization that rehabilitates dogs and help them find permanent homes.

"For the Dogs is a rescue group who is solely funded on donations, so every dollar that is made here today is going to For the Dogs," said Carrie DeCesare, Owner of Broadview Acres County Canine Resort.  "They have thousands and thousands of dollars in vet bills to rehabilitate these animals so they're not euthanized."

This was the first year for the Hike and Splash, and organizers plan to make it an annual event.

With all due resprect to "ICARE" ... while I don't know any thing about your experience with some rescue I know that most legitimate rescues need to approve a home before discussing a particular dog. Policies & procedures are in place after years of saving animals. YOU know you're a good home but they don't know you. They're just trying to get to know you. Rescuers live EVERY DAY to help the helpless & unwanted & want to make sure they're finding the best home for the animal. Sometimes what a family thinks they want is not what they should have & that's one reason why so many animals end-up in shelters. (ALL these animals belonged to somebody at one time.) So, I'm sorry for your experience but ask you to try & empathize with the people on the front lines. As hard as you think it is (if you've thought about it) ... volunteer & find out the truth! (It's even harder!!!!) AND, if you volunteer you (among other things) 1)help the animals, 2)earn the trust & respect of your fellow volunteers, and 3)get first option when an animal you like needs a new home! Good luck to you and your new dog. I hope it's from a reputable breeder.

OH.. by the way after this terrible experience.. I bought a beautiful little dog. She will for the rest of her life... have a loving family! How sad I could not have given that to an abused animal.

I got a real eye opener when my beloved princess passed away and I wanted to adopt another dog from a shelter. I contacted several. I thought I was doing a good thing. My references are amazing. My love of animals proven and undeniable. Yet while trying to adopt I felt villianized and put upon by the very people that were supposed to be looking for good pet parents. These so called GOOD rescuers put me through hell! They refused to answer a single question about the animal that I was seeking to adopt. BUT they wanted to dealve into ALL of MY personal business. One wanted me to drive a hundred miles pick up the dog pay someone there for delivering the dog PLUS pay $351 up front and NOT answer ONE question about the dog.. like is it's teeth okay? Does it socialize well with people and other animals? WHAT is going on HERE?? It appears that people are running to the shelters and pulling out certain breeds and blackmailing people with them. I am sorry but this is how I feel! These people are double dipping into the pity rescue group!! When so called rescue people cannot answer simple questions about an adoptable animal there is a BIG problem!! 2 simple questions would have let me know if the animal was right for our home. BEFORE THEY NOSED INTO ALL OF MY PRIVATE INFORMATION! I have other pets to consider here! WHY should I fill out 5 pages of PERSONAL information when 2 questions would have saved me the time and money? I am sorry but animal rescue has now become a racket. Not only do I feel this way but so do the dozens of others that I have talked to that have had the same experience. PLEASE help the animals and check into this. I am so dissappointed and will NEVER give to certain rescue groups because of this. I donot want to see the animals suffer because of it.

Didn't hear or see anything about this event or I would have attended, were there any advance notices that I missed?
