Making your home more energy efficient can be quite costly, so the government is offering tax incentives to help homeowners.
That was the topic at a seminar in Boardman Thursday.
"The $1,500 is mostly any building envelope improvement," said Dan Quinlan, of Valley Energy Solutions. "Windows, doors, insulation, air sealing; anything that would help to reduce energy."
Workers with that company explained that there is help with the upfront costs. Uncle Sam will pay up to $1,500 to help homeowners with energy-efficient improvements.
Another way to go green and save some cash will come later this month when Ohio launches its appliance rebate program which some are calling "Cash for Appliances."
"We know it's going to start March 26 for sure," said Terry Semach, of Semach's Northside TV and Appliances. "We know that on refrigerators you'll get $100 if you buy an Energy Star refrigerator. We take your old one away. You'll get $150 on an Energy Star washer, and you'll get $100 on an Energy Star dishwasher."
"You will save yourself anywhere from $100 to $200 dollars a year by buying a new refrigerator," said Semach. "Now a new washing machine, if you have a family like I do, a family of five, you buy a new front loader Energy Star washing machine, you will save yourself anywhere up to $300 a year."
