The Northside Farmers' Market is open for business and a new education program is sure to help the community stay healthy.

A morning a blessing ceremony kicked off the eighth year of Northside Farmers' Market on Elm Street right across from Wick Park. The Market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon, giving area farmers a chance to sell their locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables. The Farmers' Market accepts EBT Ohio Direction Card purchases and WIC coupons. This year the market got a grant from the Wean Foundation to fund a Healthy Food Now program.

"Because many times they'll come to the market with only a few dollars left on their direction card, and this is to encourage them both to save, so they can buy more fresh vegetables, and to do education about cooking and doing healthy food with locally grown products," said market manager, Jim Converse.

The downtown Farmers' Market will begin Tuesday from noon until 3 p.m. at Federal Street and Market  Both locations will be open Tuesdays and Saturdays from now through October.
