A Grove city man turned himself into police after police said he robbed a Butler County bank on Monday.
A surveillance picture shows a man, later identified as 35-year-old Matthew Chestnut of Grove City, presenting a teller at Citizens Bank in Zelienople a note demanding money on Monday afternoon. He did not display a weapon, according to police.
Zelienople police said a dye pack in the bag with the stolen money exploded as Chestnut was getting into an SUV outside the bank. He dropped the pack and took off, but was pulled over about five minutes later.
As police approached his vehicle, he took off again. Police were able to obtain license plate information and traced the vehicle's ownership to Chestnut's father.
Chestnut told police he committed the robbery because he was unable to find work and had run out of options.
