While in Lordstown for Wednesday's launch of the Chevrolet Cruze, Gov. Ted Strickland took some time to defend a recent ad.
A number of newspaper editorials around the state have been urging the governor to pull a commercial, "Nilda's story," where he criticizes Republican John Kasich for his position on the board of directors for a company in Lorain County that sent some of its jobs overseas to be more competitive. Strickland said he's not targeting the company, Invacare, which makes wheelchair equipment, but he is calling Kasich an out-sourcer.
"Someone who voted for NAFTA, someone who voted for free trade with China, someone who worked to outsource jobs while on Wall Street, someone who was a member of Invacare's board stood by and signed off on sending Ohio jobs to Mexico and China," Strickland said.
After his appearance in Lordstown, Strickland went to Cleveland to be with President Barack Obama. Kasich will be in Columbiana County Wednesday evening and in Youngstown Thursday. Recent polls have Kasich with a double-digit lead over Strickland.
